Many More Than One is a four-unit, six-bedroom project on a typical 50-by-110-foot single-family corner lot in Denver. Conceived as a Trojan horse, the project resembles a large single-family home while concealing multiple units within. Two connected volumes contain a ground-floor two-bedroom apartment, a second-floor studio, and another two-bedroom apartment, all sharing a spacious living and kitchen area. A separate rear volume houses a private accessory dwelling unit (ADU). Shared amenities allow 6–12 or more residents to share the lot and yard. Hempcrete construction provides thermal mass with a lower carbon footprint.
The project challenges conventional ideas about housing, collective living, and ownership by proposing a new model for density and affordability by separating land ownership from housing. A Community Land Trust owns the land, so each unit can be individually lease-owned at a lower cost, eliminating the usual hierarchy between owners and lower-income ADU renters.
One lot, many more stories to tell.
